Happy Ratter Philosophy
The goal is for you and your dog to work together as a team in a competition sport setting where dogs find rats in tubes. The rats are safe, and “happy” in their tubes. These tubes are visible to dogs at lower levels and become more concealed as your dog learns this new skill.
Your dog will work on learning:
*Introduction to the “tube” (safe housing for the live rat)
*Exposure to the tube with live rat
*Foundations of sniffing for the rat
*Mini mock scent trial of rat in different levels of cover.
*Prep tips for scent trialing for titles
Praise is a must! Food, toy, petting and/or verbal are all praise. Remember to take that moment when the rat is found to connect with your dog and let them know how special they are. You may bring single chew treats as a reward, and we suggest crates for when your dog is not working with you and our instructor.
