Members of the flyball team Ready, Set, Ruckus! will be offering Drop-In Flyball Sessions on select Sundays at Diving Dogs Anonymous from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. $20 per class-Pre-registration and payment are required.
Flyball is a fast paced, high energy dog relay race. Two teams of four dogs race each other over four jumps, trigger a box and return their ball to the finish line. Speed and accuracy is the name of the game in this sport. The first team to have all four of their dogs cross the finish line with no mistakes wins.
Flyball welcomes dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds. Dogs must be friendly with other dogs as this is a team sport!
Drop-In Flyball Sessions will introduce your dog to this incredibly fun and addicting sport or will build on knowledge your dog has already developed in the sport. Prerequisites for this class include a basic obedience course at Diving Dogs Anonymous or elsewhere. Dogs must not have any dog aggression or human aggression, must be comfortable with body handling, and must be comfortable working with other dogs present. Handlers must be able to handle their own dog or bring an additional handler for their dog if needed.
Foundation skills covered during drop in sessions will include, but are not limited to the following:
– Recalls on the flat (return to handler at speed)
– Recalls over flyball jumps (return to handler over a series of jumps)
– Dead ball retrieves (retrieving a ball that has not been thrown by handler)
– Introduction to a box turn (teaching “hit it” or a swimmer’s turn motion on an inclined surface)
– Developing your “hit it” into a box turn
Please be prepared to work out of your cars. All owners are encouraged to be in the building watching others train. Make sure to bring your dog’s favorite treats and/or toys as well as a collar and/or harness, water and poop bags.
*All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and printed proof of rabies is required prior to participation in any class, lesson or event.
